Sorry about the double post, I hit return after typing the address. Doh! My best suggestion is to invest in a breakdown backpacker's pole. The action isn't as nice as a single or 2-piece, but the versatility makes-up for it. I use a lightweight 4-piece setup. The handle reverses to accomodate either spin or fly reels. It is called the Eagle Claw Packit, no. PK601-7.5ft(229 cm) Spin/Fly, made by the Wright & McGill Co. I think I paid about $35. at Warshall's in Seattle. It has a surprisingly nice action. My ultralight spinreel and tackle sit in the top of my Givi tailbox for easy access. Occasionally, I bring an ultralight fly reel. (I get a kick out of wandering into a river between all those "River Runs Through-It" types with their big-bucks gear and dicing a couple of trout in front of them wearing tevas and nylon shorts. They hate that.) The pole is wedged between the dufflebag behind me and the tailbox. This setup has accompanied-me on many Sierra trips, up the coast and through Can/AK. David, A full size fishing pole on a KLR could present real problems. Telescopic rods are the ticket, I do it all the time. (found mine for cheap, at WalMart) They're a compromise, but what isn't for a dualsport enthusiast. All best. I can figure out a way to lash my 2-piece rod to the bike, but my question is how do you carry the fish back home? A five pound bass definitely won't go in one of those little 6-pack coolers and there's no room for a larger cooler. Or, foil wrap it around the exhaust. This works with hot dogs, also!
