I just so happens that I installed the Maier hand
guards and covers a few days ago. The only drilling
required was for the plastic cover to attach it to the
hand guards. That and cutting the end of the throttle
slide to get access to the hallow bar. No bending was
required.
I did have to slide the clutch and break levers in a
little bit to that they did not interfere with the
guards. The levers are angled down just a bit from
the guards. They feel comfortable, however.
Went riding in the woods yesterday, but fortunatly
didn't get a chance to test how strong the really are

They are pretty solid, though.
All in all, in sounds like the Maier were not as
difficult to install.

forks (again)

I'm a little confused by the whole fork thing at this point. I don't
understand why I would pop the fork seals off using air pressure if I
have to pull out the lower tube anyway. Won't the fork seals just
come off once the lower tube is out? Also, I need a substitute for
the special Kawi tool that is used to hold the damper rod bolt. Any
suggestions? I'm sure all of this info has been provided before in
an old posting. Anyone know where I could find such a posting? If I
sound like I have my head up my ass on this one that's because I do.
I've never had to do fork work before.

P.S. When I pulled the springs out they did not have a closely-
spaced section on one end and a loosely-spaced section at the other
end as per the description and illustration in the Kawi base manual.
Anyone else notice this?
