If you mean HotGrips brand grips, then no- they are large diameter grips with heating elements molded in. They work well but they are not well suited to a single-cylinder dual-sport. If you mean any of the heating elements that slip under, or over regular grips than yes- other people have used these with the Pro-Gel grips (which are about $10-$15 and work very nicely on the KLR. I have one. I am very happy with it. When I replace chain and sprockets I will stay with the 14.

I can't remember the exact RPM but I do ride it to work 40 miles each way on Interstate 90 at 70-75 (indicated) without a problem.

Yes. I find I need to slip the clutch much less. The added power down low is da bomb.

I would actually prefer a little lower 1st and a little higher 6th than what we have now rather than all the change on one end of the ratios.

Yup.

I bought mine from Fred so I can't comment on Kawi's. Fred is great to deal with and ships really fast. Someone who actually knows your bike and is willing to share that knowledge is worth his weight in gold. Well, maybe not gold. Silver? Copper? Certainly $8 anyway.
