good group ride exeriences ?

I've been thinnking about organizing a group ride on some local trails here
in Ottawa, and I was wondering what components of this kind of ride have
been a good experience for you guys in the past. Here are some questions
that come to mind;
Group size < 12 ?
Is it better or worse to have a mix of experienced riders and less
experienced so the new guys can learn from the more experienced ?
How long is enough ( probably depends on the kind of trail ) 2, 4, 6 hours ?
How frequent should the breaks be ( need to keep those fluid levels up ) ?
I was planning on having a BBQ at the end of the day, a cook your own steak
kind of thing.
Anything else ?
