Hey Y'all, Just putting a note out there giving a little praise to a fellow lister, Brad Manchas (a.k.a. bradklr650). I put out the word a few weeks ago about wanting to purchase a stock exhaust, and a few listers replied (thanks to all who did). I chose to go with Brad, mainly for price and newness of the muffler. I placed a call to him and talked with him for about an hour on the phone, went by his description alone (no pics) and sent him the money via PayPal. Risky to some, but I deal on eBay a lot, so ya just have to take the chance if you want something. I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE TRANSACTION!!! He is very nice and courteous, and sent me the muffler that he described. So, I am letting everyone know that this guy can be trusted, is true to his word, and too bad he's not going to be at the rally!!! If y'all want to know why I am going through the trouble of putting this on the list, it's to tell you we are a close knit little group of people with the same intrests in bikes, and we should take this dealing as an example. Tell the truth to each other and never screw the people for which you are getting help from. If everyone on this list does this, then by God, we have the best group going!!! Thank you Brad!!! On the same vein I just had three rapid transactions for various KLR parts with three seperate people. In each case I put the item in the mail the same day (sorry Tony for having it one day later due to work) and got the checks about the same time they got the items. Out of about 100 transactions over the web I have yet to be burned though I did have one item that arrived quite late. It should be noted, however, that the lateness was the postal problem as it was postmarked the day the gent said he sent the item. IE: it stuck around in a basket somewhere being overlooked at the shipping level. I will happily continue to do business in here! Come to think of it, I have a factory Kawasaki Tank bag for the KLR650 that I won't be using. It's in reasonably good shape save for where the cat took a liking to one strap (tried to knaw on it a little). Anything beyond close-up scrutiny and it looks like new. Pics available and reasonable offers accepted.

I want to thank Brian for the kind words, the nice and courteous remark was hyberbole, I'm not, really more of the sarcastic curmudgeon type. If you have any reason to do business with Brian - DO SO - I didn't quote a price for my exhaust, in fact I was leery of selling on the web, but he quoted a fair price and then followed up with payment immediately. He was probably wondering what he got into with me when I couldn't ship it the day I said I would because of the job but was polite and understanding when I let him know the reason. To me Brian is the kind of guy I would trust with borrowing my bike, dog or wife. Thanks Brian!!! Brad A15 btw - the monies received went back to fellows on the list, Jake and Fred. Two other guys I'd trust with my bike, dog or wife!!! Well maybe not the latter w/ Fred, I've seen pictures, I don't think she would come home again.

I'll just chime in and say that your experience seems to be 'par for the course' on this list. I completely parted out an '87 and bought a few parts as well, over 25 separate transactions, all done on blind trust - i.e. I'll send you the part, you send me the money. Given the high standard of helmet quality these days (in Canada, dealers don't sell any helmets without either Snell or DOT certification), I think the most important, and most overlooked aspect with full-face helmets is noise. The sense of hearing is an important of your "active safety package". A really quiet full-face helmet smooths the airflow to the point that you can hear better than you could without a lid. This is particularly important because wind noise is very effective at masking warning sounds, like that truck horn on your left flank... I think a lot of anti-helmet types feel that way because of their experiences with cheap lids, or have based their opinions on their experiences with older helmet designs. Motorcyclist did extensive comparison testing back in '91. Mid-line Arai and Shoei helmets outperformed everything else by a fair margin. I bought an RF-200 based on their recommendation, and never looked back. Subsequent experiments with friends' helmets confirmed that my Shoei was quieter without earplugs than theirs with earplugs IN... I found helmet noise info on the web at http://hope4hearing.org/motorcycle1.htm, and more at http://www.mcnews.com/articles/helmet.htm. Both articles found that open face helmets were noisier than current full-face models. The MCN article recommends that all riders wear foam earplugs, regardless of the type of helmet they wear. From the active safety aspect, this concerns me. Which is better: Lose some hearing acuity now thanks to earplugs, or do without and eventually lose enough of your hearing to be constantly at risk a few riding seasons later?
