I have a KDX200 and am thinking about getting another one of maybe a 300 that has been made street legal. I asked my one trusted dealer, who races a good deal, etc, what I should get to learn to ride dirt and to have fun. He pointed me to the KDX and it's a hoot. Plenty strong, runs up big (really big) hills, shifts smooth, not much maintenance, low cost.I really don't think much about wanting to ride the KLR on rough trails any more. What is a chalenge and work on the KLR is just an opportunity to play on the KDX. It seems to have a nice broad powerband, I could even gear it down one tooth on the countershaft, But a nice trans, good suspension, etc. I guess they all need some work to be serious competitors but I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I haven't driven the KLX, I think it might be a little ssofter but being a four stroke you can find some that have a license plate on them. My '01 had a pretty sorry suspension for offroading, set to full preload it was still bottoming on trails but harsh on the road. I weigh 150 soaking wet. The Progressive LR series rear spring is $90, and made a tremendous difference. New shocks are more like $400. The stock shock works OK with the progressive spring, good enough for me. Of course $400 or $500 will get you a better, fully adjustable shock. Devon dirtbikr125 wrote:
