From an old list message:

"1995 was the last year the KLR650 was capable of having the optional kickstart installed. Modifications to the clutch basket of the later year bikes made the kickstart incompatable. Some ambitious engineer could configure the ideler gear to match the kickstarter for the 1996 and later bikes." Wise men still seek Him... Mark St.Hilaire, Sr A15 My Adelphia Email can be "iffy." It would be a pretty tedious task if you could even find the parts. There arte different starter gears in the older models (pre 95) that allowed the kickstart to be added. The kickstarter kit is no longer available from Kawasucki so you'd have to get it from a salvage yard or find it used elsewhere. dat brooklyn bum

Also, I've got a 95 and it would be nice to have a kick-starter. The reason I never got one is that based on reports on the list ( years ago ) apparently they're so hard to use that they're practically useless. Bogdan

Not true, I have a '93 KLR 650 with a kickstart and it kicks over and starts no problem. Bogdan did you get your motor back yet? Conall 93,95 KLR650 _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp.

I will put this simple, when watching Trashcar, the cars will turn in the direction of your clutch lever, this way you can hold your beer in the right so when your on the couch leaning hard to the left routing on you favorite driver ( since the cars are the same ), if it gets really hot and heavy and shouting and screaming is required you will tend to spill you beer less when its in your balancing arm. Again this is just... what the heck.. this ones free... ;-) Duden hands out handfuls of chill pills ( Placebo's in Bottle ) Ta Ta folks..
