				Hi all,

I'm trying to find a good pair of lightweight, waterproof boots (aren't
we all) and I was wondering if anybody has tried the Altama series
boots. I like this one <
http://www.altama.com/tactical/3751.htm > but
I know nothing about riding boots so there may be something better at a
more reasonable price. It seems that most of the boots I've come across
at the mall are too big and clunky to fit comfortably between the foot
 peg and the shift lever.

 Thanks,

Go straight to your computer and order some Sidi On-Road Sympatex
boots. You can walk in them all day (in fact, you'll come to prefer
them for general walking-around shoes) and they will never ever leak.

I just bought a pair of Hein Gericke Concord, nice, light, and my size 11
fits OK under and over the shifter on my Concours. No experience with water
yet but advertised to be water proof.
 zipper closure with velcro flap.
 about $150 from MAW.

If'n you like those, check these out as well. Just picked 2 pairs
(one for me and one for the Lady Rock) for about $140 at a Bob's
Store sale. /usually cost about $99/pair but they had a buy one get
one half off sale and I had a coupon for 15% off.

Gotta cut-n-paste. We got the Super Magnum Plus which is waterproof
(Sympatex liner) and insulated (Thinsulate). It has way more ankle
support than the Steel-toed Caterpillars I replaced (yes caterpillars
 have toes!).

I also have a pair of Hi-Tec Magnums that I'm pretty fond of. Mine
are leather/nylon, but they seem to provide reasonable support and
are wonderfully lightweight, completely waterproof, and surprisingly
good at regulating temperature. A friend of mine crash-tested a pair
(at fairly low speed) and seemed happy with them. I bought them at

http://www.botach.com for $50 or so.

Mine have been very comfortably waterproof for the past 10,000 miles,
including tonight's downpour. They make both waterproof and non-
waterproof models, I believe. The waterproof ones have a sympatex
waterproof/breathable bootie. The model that seems closest to the
 ones I have is
http://www.botachtactical.com/hitecmagnum1.html. The
 current price seems to be $19.95, which I find a bit hard to believe;
I think I might just try ordering another pair.

 Cheers,

I dumped the bike on my leg and these Hi tecs, (from Sports Authority) have little protection at all. Slammed the ankle pretty well. Nice comfort and warmth, just very little crash protection. Don't say "that doesn't matter I ride street", Dress for the crash, not the ride.

It's true, and shipping will probably be $10-12. But $30 is still an
 excellent price for excellent boots.

But as Brian pointed out, they don't really provide any crash protection.
I love mine, and I wear them everywhere... except when I'm riding.

OK, I don't disagree with that. So what do you all wear for riding
boots? Most of the expensive stuff is too expensive for me at the
 moment.
