This Segway thing seems pretty stupid to me. The inventor seems to be
living in another world - see the pictures of the 'village' at their
website. I doubt if this thing will be able go up curbs or over grass? At
12 mph max speed you may as well walk. In fact, that's the weird thing -
it's almost like a device for people who are too lazy to walk. Walking or
bicycling is a lot more efficient, not to mention cheaper. This thing is
supposed to retail at $3000! I can imagine the couple of yuppies that buy
them and all the other people laughing at them.
We had a similar boffin called Charles Sinclair in England 20 or so years
ago. He came out with an electric go cart called the C5. It too was
supposed to 'revolutionise' the way people travel. I think they sold about
3 of them and the rest wound up in the landfill.
Now an electric KLR that does 90 mph and 200 miles on a charge, that would
be something!

I saw them on the news last night. They actually do go up curbs, drive
through water and everything. They had numerous people on them doing these
things. One guy even jumped up a short curb. Sure walking is more efficient,
but can you walk, or even run 12 mph? I doubt it. Especially not for 17
miles. I can see where these would be a VERY good idea in urban areas. The
initail retail is supposed to be $3k, but I'm sure they will go down in the
future. I'd bet that a lot of people living in such places as NYC would find
them VERY attractive. If it means that you don't have to use your car, and
takes up less space the a bicycle, it seem like a good idea to me. Heck, you
could take it right to your office.

Check out
www.ecycle.com. They have an electric rig and a hybrid. I'm not
sure if they are in production, I just received a flyer on it once because I
sold Gates belts and they were using Gates as a drive belt. I think they
could've made them a little more attractive at the very least.

I think it is pretty obvious the the internal combustion engine is not
going to work by now. And it has scared a lot of horses, so it is time to ban
it.
Also, while we are looking at stupid ideas, what is this I heard in the
tavern the other night about some idle savages that actually have toilets
inside their houses. Yeh, I found that last one hard to believe too.
Blow out the candle before you go to bed folks.
