fork seals - what to buy?

Post by bdholton@yahoo.com » Wed Nov 07, 2001 2:39 pm

Forks are leaking on my A3. The Kawasaki house wants $10.95 each for Fork seals. This sounds like a good deal to me. Is there something else I need to buy for this job that I don't know about. I saw the lifetime ones on Fred Hinks site, but shouldn't the factory seals do good for a few years? Also when I am ready I plan on using Rex's procedure at http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Breakers/8462/KLR650/ForkSeal- RR.html. Is this the best way to "do it yourself". Thanks, Bill Holton A3

fork seals - what to buy?

Bill- I think that the factory seals are much better than the "leakproof" seals. Much more robustly constructed and you don't have to dork around with washers to shim the seal into the right location. The leakproofs cost the same as the factorys so I would go with the factorys. You should also give your fork tubes a through inspection while you have them apart, new seals aren't going to help your problem if the fork leg is scratched or dented. Also, clean your dust seals well and replace your fork boots with some Daystar 58's if you already haven't replaced the crummy factory boots. ------------------ Zack Banana Republic of Washington, DC KLR650X A5/C2 "Buster" | KLR650A2 | ZG1000A1 | KZ440A2 | 1966 Vespa 125 COG #4664 DCDS #1
