I got rear ended at about 10 mph on a highway exit ramp last week. A
wrecker, one of those big ones slammed into a car behind me that hit me from
the side then the wrecker nailed me from behind. Clay Henry (my KLR) threw
me in front of him and fell down in front of the wrecker that was sliding to
a stop. I rolled a number of times into highway 183 landed on my feet
watching the big wrecker finally come to a stop with poor Clay Henry under
the front end. The driver of the wrecker got out and asked me if I was "OK".
Yeah right. I started to appreciate the fact I was still alive.
In short we dug the bike out from under the wrecker both wheels of the
wrecker were pointed outward and I noticed the tie rod for the front end
that seemed to be about 1.5 inches in diameter was bent up in the middle
about 12 inches. The rig was not drivable.
After the police reports and all the non-sense that went on I put the key
back into Clay Henry and he started up taking me home. The rear sub frame in
bent enough that the muffler is rubbing the tire but he runs. Really tough
bikes.
