allied airstrike on punky

W A S H I N G T O N, Aug. 14 - U.S. and Canadian warplanes patrolling the
"No-Punky" zone over Vancouver, BC today struck a decisive blow in the war
against "Punky and Lew" subject lines.
Air Force F-16s launched a variety of ordinance, including sidewinder
missles and short range tactical nuclear weapons, in an effort to quell the
seemingly omnipresent barrage of subject lines, which have included many
inane and frivolous references to rider Lew Waterman and his
motorcycle-mounted pooch, Punky. All aircraft returned safely to base and an
assessment of the battle damage is ongoing, according to U.S. Central
Command, which is responsible for U.S. military operations in the region.
Punky and Lew have been "very active" in threatening coalition air crews as
well as KLR listers with the repetitive appearance of their names, Pentagon
spokesman Rear Adm. Craig Quigley told reporters today. But despite today's
successful strike, "there is no permanence to our efforts here," Quigley
said. "But if we can degrade their subject line producing capability, that
is, indeed, the goal."
