Anyone know if ECB brake pads are much better than what is stock on the A15? Jeff

I just put on Galfer pads on my KLR (arrowheadmotorsports.com), and I am guessing they provide maybe 20-30% more stopping power than stock. I've heard they don't score the rotors as much as the stock pads but haven't put enough miles on them to know yet. I changed at 2700mi because the brakes aren't good enough for the city. The stock pads weren't worn much. I use EBC pads on my SR500s. They are perfectly fine pads, OK wet or dry, hot or cold but not outstanding anywhere. They might work better on the KLR, the SR has a stainless rotor that seems a little more slippery than the KLR rotor. Devon A15 jayed36@... wrote:

You mean EBC? I don't know about any EBC product except for the front sintered 'R' suffix pads (FA130R). They perform essentially identical to stock. RM

Green or black? Front or rear?

I have not been overly impressed with EBC on my KLX 650. Inital bite is nice, but even with a careful 100 mile brake in, the bite disappears after 500 miles. Then you are back to a handfull and not two fingers. Claes. -----Original Message----- From: jayed36@... I just installed a set of Gafler pads (green and black) from Fred at Arrowhead. Wish I would have done this from day one! BIG difference. With SS lines and Tourance tires I can lock up the brakes with no problems. Dana E Hager

Front brakes, the backing plates are green. The stock rear brakes are strong enough, I can lock them on the street on dry pavement. The front, once the tire warmed up, I couldn't even get the tire to howl with the stock brakes. Devon A15 RichardM wrote:

EBC is no longer making the FA130 brakepads. They still make the FA67 for the rear of the KLR. Fred www.arrowheadmotorsports.com

The KLR front caliper takes an oddball pad that seems to fit nothing else. We're dangerously close to not having any higher-friction front pads to choose from. Galfer Green and what else? The Dunlopad S45? Does the S45 grab harder than stock? If Galfer ever takes the green KLR pad out of production, I'm going to stockpile them. The rear situation is better. It seems that the rear KLR pad also fits the front of the KLR250 and several older KX models. I've even seen HH-rated racing pads in this size... Not that I'd want them. It never pleases me to see an aftermarket product for the KLR disappear, but the FA130R is a pad that I won't really miss. RM

I don't have a Super Sherpa, but I do have a KLR250.Mine's a 2001.I considered the Super Sherpa, but it felt a little smaller than the KLR.I do like the fact that the S.S. has electric start,as my KLR is kick only.I wouldn't have minded the fact that the S.S. is air-cooled to the KLR's water-cooling, but I like the fact that the KLR250 has screw adjusted valves, while the S.S. has shim under bucket(cams have to be removed to adjust).Of course the shim type is supposed to go longer between adjustments.
