shipping bike to big island

Hi all, Just wanting to know other KLR250 owners' experiences of packing gear onto their bike. Has anyone managed to get some kind of rack happening? Anyone used panniers of any sort? I usually use Smart Strapz (www.andystrapz.com) which work really well. Some pics of my loaded bike are at: www.ra.com.au/photos/klr250.html I know there is a small rear rack for the KLR250, but it's kinda expensive (at least here in Oz) for what you get, and apparently doesn't hold a lot of weight. Which rack is that? I guess that most people don't want to put a lot of weight directly over the rear axle of a light bike like a KLR250. How much weight the rack takes relies on the strenght of the subframe. I can happily sit on my KLR600 rack. If I get my scanning situation sorted then I can post some pictures somewhere. I use a Gearsack Dirtbag and matching rack on my KLR600. The Dirtbag was the original bag that the current 250-size Gearsack is based on. The 250 bag is a lot smaller than the fullsize Gearsack, but I don't remember what the capacity is in litres. When I toured on my KLR I also used a set of Gearsack saddlebags. If you need a rack of some sort, Reg at DMG Engineering in Abbotsford can fabricate something for you, he's pretty good at that sort of thing. Reg fabricated some brackets for my Gearsack rack when Gearsack themselves would no longer supply replacement brackets (after my originals were damaged in a crash). Mister_T Melbourne Australia

We mount them from any side we want, although a rack does get in the way a bit when we take a flying leap from behind. And the chain is on the RHS as well. Mister_T
