Quick question regarding sprockets. I have a 2001 Suzuki DR650 and am wondering what effect changing sprocket sizes and chain would have on performance. If I put a larger size rear sprocket on how would it affect low end and top end peformance? thanks.

Reverse holds true. When for example you take a KLR with stock 15 front tooth and change to 16 it will often not pull top end in a high wind if loaded...so top speed is less than with a 15. Kurt

My KLR had (stock)15/43T sprockets, almost a 1:3 ratio. Changing the front sprocket by 1 tooth has nearly the same effect as changing the rear sprocket by 3 teeth. For example: 14/43T is similar to 15/46 (good for dirt, less so on road) 16/43T is similar to 15/40 (good for road, less so off road) I switch between 14 & 16 tooth sprockets regularly. It's a whole lot quicker than swapping rear sprockets. My 15T sprocket makes a nice paper weight. You can search the messages from the web site for more detailed info on sprocket changes. I saw a blue/green KLR today at 2222 at 360 (Four Points) in Austin. The rider had a white helmet. Anyone on the list? Pat Austin TX
