punky & lew need info - conti tkc80 expected rear mileage? nklr

Post by punkynlew@hotmail.com » Mon Apr 16, 2001 8:41 am

Hi List: I'm trying to figure out when to mount the new Conti TKC80 tires I have? I shouldn't have bought them at Daytona, but I did. I would rather not carry them on the bike for 637 miles to the beginning of the Trans America Trail, south of Columbia, TN near Culleoka, where I will need them. I haven't come up with a place to ship the tires near the trailhead. We will ride the Trail 2,466 miles to Moab, where I will probably get new Kenda K270's. Can I realistically expect 3,103 miles from the rear Conti, the first 637 miles of it on pavement, 98% of the rest offroad? I would like to mount the new tires, before we leave, in Live Oak, FL. Any advice from Conti TKC80 users would be appreciated. I'm tying up last minute loose ends here in Greenacres. Everything is going very well for our May 3 departure on Punky & Lew's Americas Motopaseo from Live Oak, Florida. TIA for any assistance. Punky & Lew

650 died

Gang, glad to be part of this fine list of fellow KLR 650 owners! Love my bike and wouldn't trade it for anytthing. The other day though, I was out riding my 93' KLR 650 and it just died. Took it home and it started again, but was real ruff. Started to smoke and just run very ruff, wont idle at all. Is this a dirty carb situation?? Any ideas? I also have a KLR 250 and every once in awhile I have to clean the carb on it. How come they dont install a gas filter in the KLR's?? Thanks for you help in advance...Tom Whalen
