ok i am new to this club and i want to get a dual purpose bike i am
loking at the klr650 and the bmw 1100 which one is better and why
will the klr650 make long trips easy or what?

very different bikes...think of dual purpose bikes on a coninuum...the GS
and Quota heavyweights are on one end...the KLR is in the middle with a
couple of other bikes and the very light sometimes high performance trail
bikes with street legal equipment are on the other end. The KLR is the best
adventure tourer made and the best value...the GS is a street bike with some
offroad pretensions...it would be far more comfortable on pavement and
two-up...

hello I was just wondering do you think that the klr60 has enough
power to go around 85mph with a 5'9 260lbs guy on it? and do ya'll
think itcould make a 2000 mile trip with no problems?

My opinion: 85MPH may be to speedy; I just don't know for sure. If
you would have said 70-75MPH I would say no problem at all. Go For
It.

60 or 650? if your talking about the KLR650 ask Andy he is 6'2" 260
something we were doing around 115 before we got our tickets..

I'm 6' 0" 275 lbs and I take my Tengai up to 100 mph all the time. My
'88 is geared lower, so I'll only do 80 max on it.
I rode round trip from central PA to Daytona last year and I'd do it again.
A friend of mine rode his '99 KLR from Binghamton, NY to the tip of
Argentina last year. His only problem was a head-on with a truck.
The KLR is an extremely popular bike for transcontinental adventure.

How did you get your 650 up to 115 (mph?)? Was it stock? I can get up
to 90 mph fairly quickly but anything over that seems slow or
impossible.

Hey buddy, I think I'll call a freindly Bull Shot here. A stock KLR
redlines in top gear at 106MPH. I'm not sure a stock KLR would even
be able to pull redline in top gear.
Even if you had the 16 tooth front sprocket, you would redline at
113MPH. I pretty darn sure the KLR couldn't pull redline in top gear
with 16 toother.
Downhill run? Frictionless day? Piled a VFR motor into the KLR?
What the story?
