Call me old fashioned, but paper maps don't need electrical supplies, can be dropped (if in water, lay it out to dry), much cheaper, if they tear - tape them, and the only "problem" I can see is having to make the positional calculations (which, I guess I'm lucky, isn't much of a problem). Some of us travel in places that are not well mapped, Mexico for example, and the GPS is a great help.
