handguards wanted/ stator for sale

Post by Falke Bruinsma » Thu Dec 07, 2000 12:15 am

Hello With the weather getting colder (20 F with flurries), I'm looking for something to protect my hands from the wind. Does anyone have a set of blue or white handguards laying around? Perhaps you upgraded to better ones and you have your stock ones laying in the garage? Also, I purchased a new stator last summer on my trip back from Alaska because I thought I needed one. I ended up not using it and it has been sitting on my desk. If there is anyone who is looking for one, let me know. -Falke '87 KLR650 '96 Vulcan 1500L

I only got all worked up about the balancer system when I found a piece of it stuck to my magnetic drain plug while changing the oil. BTW, the magnetic drain plug is actually strong enough to hold onto pieces of metal. I removed the plug, and found a bit of metal about 2 X 2 X 5mm stuck to it. Another piece about 2 X 2 X 10mm was found in the oil I drained out. Another piece about 2 X 2 X 30mm was found sitting next to the adjuster. These three pieces ent up being the bottom of the slot of the adjuster plate (this might only make sense to those who have actually seen the part). The piece that was stuck to the plug didn't show much damge as though it went into anything, but the somewhat larger piece that was in the drained oil had some "chew" marks on it. I hope you don't wonder why I got all worked up about it. When the saga is complete (I still need to replace the chain), I will write it up, and maybe include a photo of the broken part. I know I'm getting repititious, but I will always pull the magneto cover off when adjusting this thing. Steve A.
