bike after another... Total years riding is about 25. I hope to become a crotchety old bastard and still be riding. It would be a bummer to not be able to ride. Rode from about age 6 or 7 (best guess, don't really remember learning how to ride, just remember ripping around on mini bikes in the neighborhood) straight through to age 31. Stopped riding in '91 till this spring (went back to college to get a degree, moved across country, got married, bought a house, had two kids). Bought the KLX this spring to start riding again. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I started riding again. Have had a bike since age 7 or so, even when I took a break from riding I stored my Katana knowing I would be riding it again. Bikes I've owned (or brothers owned, we were always generous with each others bikes so I put some good mileage on their bikes): '66 Alexander Reynolds 3 1/2 hp minibike - literally rode it into the ground, don't know how many clutches and motors we went through with it. Suzuki 80 - '66 I think. 2 stroke single, street bike, trail rode it as a kid. '78 Suzuki GS1000 - older brother bought it brand new, fastest production motorcycle of that year. He rode it across country, barely touched it after that. This was the first street bike that I rode after getting my motorcycle license. I put a lot of miles on that bike. We still have it in the family. '74 RD350 - bought used in '81. My first street bike that I owned. Great bike. '82 KZ750 - bought used in '82. Mint condition, great bike, put something like 30k miles on it in college. '82 Katana 1000 - bought used in '87. Still have it. Great bike. '96 KLX650R - my first real dirt bike. Dual sport kit on it. Great bike. -Ed

Real smart for not letting this collectors item go! Is it the silver/grey one? John 01 KLR650 00 Concours 81 R100s

Started riding in 1967. Had one period of 8 months or so with no motorcycle(s) in the garage - couldn't stand it, went nuts, they were like a security blanket sitting out there, but I didn't know that till they were all gone. Within 9 months of buying one again, I bought another one - have had two ever since - really keeps the anxiety levels down. (Could this be why I ride motorcycles???) No doubt. When I had it shipped across country, my wife couldn't understand why I didn't just sell it back there and get another one here. I tried to tell her they aren't that easy to find, and that I was attached to this bike, I know this bike, I didn't want to start all over with another bike. And yep, it's the silver 1000, not the 1100 that the rest of the world got. It's in need of some TLC with about 17k miles on it. Definetly not showroom condition, but that's alright, I have the rest of my life to fix/restore it. Currently has K&N filters, Vance & Hines Header, Derale oil cooler, Barnett HD clutch, and 38mm Mikuni smoothbores. Also have an aftermarket fairing lower that I put on from time to time for a different look. It's definetly a keeper even though any modern 600 will smoke it.

Only been riding since Jan. 7th this year but refuse to be without a bike from this day forward. Put over 7000 miles on the KLR. I ride every day unless I'm out of town without the bike or the bike is unrideable. Got my wife hooked now, and as soon as we get her a bike, I'll get to ride even more!! dat brooklyn bum _______________________________________________________ Tired of slow Internet? ALL RIGHT DUDE!!! Your the kind of new blood this sport needs to keep it expanding. When your spouse starts riding, make sure she takes in an MSF beginning riders course. I've seen too many new riders make critical mistakes costing them their further enjoyment of the sport (to say the least). You have taken your MSF course haven't you?...(:^) FWIW, I still brush up my skills with rider's training, even after all the years that I've ridden. Something we should all do... IMNSHO..... Not long enough. Reading through the posts of experiences with bikes I will never know makes me wistful for things missed. On the other hand the discovery of this list, the KLR, and the wealth of information shared by those with knowledge of the mechanical, spiritual and adventure side of motorcycles is deeply appreciated. Thanks to all for great posts, and great threads. Got to find a way to ride. (ps thanks Juan for some great trip reporting) (also, nice fairing remake Stu. Glad you two came out ok) Todd A9 with icy road mornings

Hi folks:

I hope this hasn't been covered previously on the list, my appolgies if it has as I've been away from the computer for awhile.

Remember the three guys on KLR650's that were going down to Argentina?  There is an article on them with nice KLR photos in the December 2000 Issue of Motorcycle Tour & Cruiser.  It's a good read.  Take care.
