Got my '01 KLR FRi. the 6th. Just had time to ride it home before
going to work.
Background: Late 60's early 70's.......Did some ameteur dirt on a
Hodaka Super Rat and Yamaha 360 Enduro. Won every event I rode in.
Won over a thousand dollars when guys at the bar bet I couldn't ride
a wheelie for a mile. Had the whole town watching (including the town
marshal). Rode from the railroad tracks to the towns only stoplight
(state road 350 and hyway 101) which is one mile. Did a figure 8 at
the intersection and rode it the mile back to the bar never leaving
the back wheel. Built a makeshift ramp out of a 2x10 and jumped my
best friends parents truck and new Cadilac. If it could be
done....I'd try it.
Present...Sat. night...Called off sick...Had to ride. Started at 11
pm. and rode till 2:15(29 degrees). Put a 105 miles on it and ready
to head home. Remembered an old county rode that led to my property
that borders the state park. The rode hadn't been used in over 20
years. 29 degrees, frost and ice, jumped a log that was across the
road.....came down with the front wheel in a 14 inch rut in the tall
grass and rear wheel on a grade. Went over the high side...at least
had the presence of mind to hit and roll to the side......KLR came
down where I would of been. Sore for a week...knocked loose the
mirror on the beast and dirtied my Nolan Classic 100.
Took the cockynest out of me. Not quite as good as I used to be
(sigh). Still enjoying the he@@ out of my A15.

gettin' old
Glad to hear your OK. I've been limping around for a week from my last
tumble. Of course, if I had been wearing my nice, shiny MX boots, I would
have barely had a scratch. Wear your boots, even if you think its a
"casual" ride. You never know when you might run into a young hotshot rider
like Dale Johnson on the trail, young being the operative word, whos pace
you try to maintain, which you do for about a half-hour, before age and
fatigue suddenly strike on a flat section you have no business crashing on.
Never let your mind tell your body its twenty years younger than what the
calendar says it is.
