Do you have a John Deere dealer near you?
I hear they have a 12V accessory plug for cheap that is identical to the one
made by BMW. If there is maybe you could post the phone number.

Actually, I am withing walking distance of a John Deere dealer, but I
can't walk and leave the KLR that far behind can I?
I'll see what I can
find out about the 12 volt plug...I'll have to admit that I don't have any
idea what the BMW plug looks like..if I can see a pic or diagram, I should
be able to discern it easily enough.
I guess I thought that everyone had a JD dealer near them, there are
dealers in almost every town around here hehe.
