I've always done wheels by feel. Recently since I now have three torque wrenches I feel obliged to use them. Doesn't seem to make a difference. I bought an XL600 when they were introduced in 83, and it did handle
better in the dirt than the KLR650. Looking back at the pictures of the XL, I
suspect a large part of the good dirt handling was result of the really low
seat height, and being a few pounds lighter than the KLR. Am thinking that
the lowering links available for the KLR will make a world of difference in
its dirt manners.
High speed street handling gets the nod on the KLR. The XL didn't like
70mph for extended times. KLR is more passenger friendly, better cruise range
too.
The XL was bulletproof, I've only put 1500 miles on the KLR so can't attest
to it's durability, but from the many testimonials I've read...I don't think
I'll be disappointed.
The "wandering green whale" (uh huh, I stole that, with permission, sort
of) is the first non-Honda I've ever owned. Never thought I'd be riding
something green.
This list in part, pushed me over the edge on the XR650/KLR650 decision.
Thanks listers.
