Mike, Every time someone posts some real dumb occurrence, it's also happened to me. In this case with the same brand chain. Let's see how did I solve this? I think I made sure the bottom rung of the chain was tight and I muscled it in. I seem to remember holding one end onto the sprocket or something while I pulled the other in.
