az dirrections? (nonkrl)

Yep....the only thing the Butterfield route had to deal with....er....was Commanches and Apaches a long the way. The weather around Guadalupe Pass can be dicey in winter but I-10 is south of there. Criswell Sent from my iPad

It was the first all weather transcontinental stage, and there's a very good reason it ran where it did. Lowest passes and warmest winter weather. That would be a much better choice for a winter crossing of the southwest. > > The other posters are correct, a few days ago I-40 was closed for miles around Flagstaff. That is routine in the winter. Even without snow, temps in Flag are often down around zero at night and barely get above freezing in the day if there is a cold weather system in the area. Right now, noon today, Flagstaff is at 34 degrees. > > I live in Eloy, near the I-8/I-10 intersection at 1300 feet above sea level, and it rarely goes below freezing at night. Arizona's highest peak is just north of there and has a ski area. Sante Fe has a ski area also just out of town. Clines Corner NM gets pretty snowy on I-40 at times also. It's elevation is about the same. We have had to get a room in Tucumcari NM in April because the I-40 was closed from there to Moriarty NM because of a snow storm. Taos is the best skiing in the southwest. You have to pay attention to the weather or you might get caught in a storm in that area (speaking from experience). Elevation is everything in the desert states. I have been snowed on at about the first of June on my KLR going from Moab south to Monticello Utah. > > > > Criswell > > > > Sent from my iPad > > > > On Dec 22, 2012, at 3:56 PM, mark ward wrote: > > > > > Hey S.W. ers > > > When crossing the Rockies flag staff can get real snowy real quick. > > > > > > Going to Vegas & Ca., Coming from Ten., or littlerock Ark. area is phoenix alot better route? > > > (to avoid snow & ICE.) > > > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > > > > > > > > > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Hey, I like chips, I'll meet at Colorado Springs and share some chips with you at the top of Pikes Peak! Sounds like a good reason for a ride. Even from St. Louis. Peter [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
