Hello Glenn, I was at the dealer again today, wanted to see the chain tensioner, again. I can't see how it is an improvement. Some one with an engineer mind, is this an improvement? How? It captures the axle better? I said, I don't think I care for his much.... dealer: "Well, you don't move it that much, that often, blah, blah blah." "Really" I says, "and if you change the counter sproket, I move the chain tensioner 10+ revolutions for slack, etc." "Oh" He had to agree, that would make it painful. The average, one-sprocket rider probably no big deal--but if you change the CS twice in one day, you will likely have a few ugly words for KHI. Looks to me like an axle/tensioner designed by a lawyer. and, as Jeff Saline said yesteday, the brake pedal 'pad' does not fold on the '08. It looked like the larger plastic engine guard might fit the pre-08, at least at the down tube. NON-KLR I also saw the new non-ABS Concours. I think I heard him say that price was $13,9xx. Lots of plastic to scratch. BACK TO KLR: Concours: Not for me (at that price!) revmaaatin. who is off to bed; preping for another night of ER heart attacKs and not-so-sober revelers

Not if they put something like this in it. The 2008 RM-Z450 is striking in its use of electronic fuel injection, which is claimed to increase roll-on power, and low-to-mid range power. The system is designed by Keihin specifically for motocross, and does not require a battery. I think EFI will increase a KLR to 60-70 mpg, and by 2012 carburetors will be a thing of the past in newly designed motorcycles. Keep it simple? A carburetor? Every time I tear one apart (four of them yesterday for my Suzuki GV1200 -- leaking O-rings on the float needle seats) I think that Rube Goldberg would have a wet dream just thinking about the hideous complexity of those things. And every little part -- diaphragm, jets, floats, needles and seat -- have the potential to get clogged, damaged, leaky or simply out of whack. By comparison, EFI is dirt simple and has never given me a moment's problem on bike, car, truck or Evinrude outboard. Give me EFI any day. --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Mike Peplinski" wrote:

Rev, I'm with you. The rear axle position adjustment on the '08 looks a lot nicer but I haven't figured out how it's any better mechanically. My previous bike was a '83 (yes, eighty-three!) Honda with snail adjusters. Now THAT was a good design. I could do a chain adjustment in about one minute. Still doesn't seem that KHI got this one right yet. My high school auto shop teacher told us "Carburetor is a French word meaning 'leave me alone'". Michael -- "It ain't those parts of the Bible that I can't understand that bother me, it's the parts that I do understand." --Mark Twain San Francisco, CA

$150 range tent update (nklr)

Post by Terry Taylor » Sat Jul 21, 2007 9:08 am

About 2 wks.ago I emailed the group for suggestions about a tent. I appreciate all that gave feedback. In the end I chose the Mountainsmith guardian from campmor.http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=39198978&memberId=12500226 It is a roomy (2-3people) 3.5 season tent.Vented very well, on closeout at $99 + s/h,aluminum framed, shockcorded color coded poles w/ all clip assembly, roomy vestibule, etc. The rain fly matches my '03 color scheme & at 20" pack length it fits inside my wolfman duffle. If you followed the tent threads recently & you are looking for one yourself I would suggest checking this out but it's on closeout so time is probably limited. I have put up & taken down twice since received & wow is it fast & easy.... --------------------------------- Choose the right car based on your needs. Check out Yahoo! Autos new Car Finder tool. Nope, and good point. Reminds me when I bought my first CB750F - no backup kick starter! I was seriously considering not getting it until I remembered my parents' experience. When they upgraded from a 1948 VW Beetle to a 1952 they were concerned that the '52 didn't have a backup hand-crank for the engine. But they bought it anyway. Anybody know a car that needs a backup hand-crank? How about ignition points? Remember those? I was very pleased to have gotten rid of all of them, until I got into Vintage Motorcycle Trials. And I remembered what a royal PITA points are! With fussing and caring I can make them work ... just like in the "good ol' days" ... or I can take a modern bike and just go ride. :-) Chris ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: "Mike Peplinski" Date: Sat, 21 Jul 2007 08:55:26 -0500
