After a bunch of fun research I have my sights set on the Super Tenere' as more comfy on the road while still being capable on the dirt, likely next spring.
Yet, a riding buddy took me to look at the Tiger 800 XC and I have to say it looks very interesting. I plan to rent one from the local EagleRider connection and make a long weekend run to Moab to see how it works.
Now, if I can just find somewhere to fly in and rent a Super Tenere' for a "test day"...

I went from a KLR to a Super Tenere in September and agree. The ergos are close enough.
You could buy two new KLRs for the price of one XTZ12, though. And the Yamaha is strictly an unpaved road bike
for the average rider. It's just too dang heavy to take off-off road unless you are brave and go with friends to help pick up the beastie if you fall.
That said, on the + side are:
Fuel injection, shaft drive, adjustable seat height, two engine maps to chose from,
ABS, shaft drive, three levels of traction control, nearly 100 rwhp and it still has a 6 gallon tank.
Did I mention it's got shaft drive?

I love the ergo's of the KLR and closest I've seen to it, in a bigger/smoother bike, is the Yamaha Super Tenere'

I remember a comment by an aging female rider who said if it didn't hurt anymore to be on the road than to stay at home, then she would be on the road. At 70, I can't do, or don't want to do, 500 mile days anymore, but the KLR is a good ride, and I can still get in two or three hundred miles a day. I would like to find someone in the Issaquah, Wash., area that likes to ride forest service roads. I realized the last time I was out, that if I were to have a breakdown 20 miles on some back road, riding by myself, I might be in trouble.
