Check/clean your petcock screens and make sure that when you had it set to "on" that it was pointing directly at "on" and not just vertical. You also might want to look at the vacuum lines from the carb to the petcock to make sure there are no leaks. If that doesn't fix it, maybe a petcock rebuild would help. (All of this based on switching to reserve having fixed it.) -Jeff Khoury

Does your bike have an aftermarket fuel filter on it? Some of these have too much restriction and reduce fuel flow.
