what better example to show off a 400 lb motorcycle carrier

Post by dooden » Tue Mar 24, 2009 10:10 pm

Not to mention 400 lbs of tongue weight.... Don't think I would want to be driving the little Blazer in any heavy cross winds. Thanks, great idea for a lighter bike, but my KLR will be in the box of my truck when transported, or on my trailer with the 4 wheeler. Dooden A15 Green Ape

what better example to show off a 400 lb motorcycle carrier

Faced with the problem of going trailering and no room for a bike I came up with something similar. I bought an ancient (Jan 1980) Yamaha DT175G and spent a while refurbishing it. Then I welded up a carrier on the back of the little 5^th wheel, and I explored a fair amount of British Columbia on it. The KLR it isn't, but two wheels and a motor beat hell out of any half ton ever built. The most I did in a day was 352 km around the bottom of Lake Kootenay, and I enjoyed every inch of it, (or millimetre if you insist). Bike weight is 229 lbs, I think and very easy to roll on and off. Works for me, DC Dooden wrote:

I assume you are joking. If the weight of one bike is a problem, why would a carrier for two bikes ease my mind? The problem is not the carrier, it's the weight.

I think one of these carriers would be OK for a 250cc bike. However, there is a torque being put on your vehicle and hitch that's not being accounted for when you are looking at just tong weight, like putting an extent ion pipe on the handle of a breaker bar. Of hand, I would say your hitch and vehicle should have a tong weight rating twice as much as the weight of the bike. Craig Kahler

Not mine, it still has vacuum petcock, so I can't get the gas out. I have weighed mine several times, 431 Lbs, and NOT a full tank. I can't even get mine in my van by myself, let alone my lifted F150 4X4! It fell over and bent my MC ramp once! PIG! Mikey 2004 RedOne Crestline, Ca.
