front/back brake pads

Post by chad strohmayer » Sat Sep 13, 2008 12:38 pm

while we are on the subject, EBC makes a great 320mm rotor for the front wheel that really, really helps when it comes to stopping. the 290mm stock rotor will do but when that cell phone blabbering hippo in the SUV is about to run through a red light you will be glad you did the upgrade. ditto for a very affordable steel braided brake line for the front as well. ...now if there was just some way to get a real set of forks on the KLR life would be a bit better! p.s. i used EBC sintered pads both front and rear (my KLR saw 7K miles the past 3 months, half highway touring half city commuting in NYC) the rear wore down to the metal plate 500 miles ago. The front is still good. Ordered a set of Galfers so we'll see how they hold up.

I wouldn't. I've had binding problems due to excess metal left on the edges of the rear Galfer pads at some point in the manufacturing process -- particularly the rears. I never had a problem with the fronts. I switched to the Dunlopads "Pro MX" (HH+) pads Fred sells for the front -- I think they actually stop somewhat better than the Galfer green pads -- and the standard Dunlopads or EBC pads for the rear. It's too easy to lock the rear wheel anyway, in my opinion it almost doesn't matter what you put back there so long as it is not too aggressive and does not bind. Thor

I replaced my bars with MSR brand aluminum I believe it was a high atv bend I also think it was less than $50 I wanted high wide and light bars. I wish I could tell you that they are better but I don't know for sure. these allow me to stand up without having to bend over as much and have a more upright seating position I'm 6'3 hal2006 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
