would be able to put my heals on the ground (I have an 07). But right now, I have not installed them and my heals are more than 3 inches off the ground. Should I exchange my 1 inch links for longer ones?

You do know that when you put on lowering links, your rear spring needs to be upgraded unless your 1 > light 2 > Not hitting anything hard with your rear wheel. You will eat your lower fender up if either of the 2 are happening. I know I did but I weighted about 220 when I did put the 1" lowering links on. I run with them for a bit and put on an LR 425 spring I think. Heck, been a long long time ago so have done forgot. Any whoo, I ended up taking the link off and putting the stock back on. Have you lowered your spring setting any to help out on this matter. I've got about a 28.5 inseam on my fat little 5'9" body and have not problems. '43 Andy in Jennings, La. '00 KLR650 '07 Bandit

turn signal failure

What I have found many times when a blinker doesn't work, is one of the slip connections has come undone. That's all usually for me. You may want to use a bit of dielectric grease on your connections. Two of the connections are back under the rear fender and the other two are in the left and right sides of the fairing. It usually doesn't require any dismantling to get to the connectors.

I wasn't going to talk about all the farkleing, but yes, I have cut kickstands, added new springs to the rear shock, changed to new progressive rear shocks, added and cut new kickstands because of new shocks, put a dished corbin on my wife's bike, used shorter lowering links because the new shocks have a different geometry. Anything else you want to know about lowering and modifying a lowered bike, I may be able to help. I've spent lots of money and time. Fred at Arrowhead has the parts.
