new bike
I just purchased a new to me Y2k klr650. I have a few questions for
the collective knowledge here.
1. Is there a online place to purchase a sevice manuel for this bike.
Kind of, www.arrowheadmotorsports.com .
2. What is a good helmet out there for on and offroad riding. Its
been twelve years since I have owned or ridden a bike and my old
helmet doesn't seem to fit very well any more.
Nolan N100 or HJC Symax are two excellent flip-face helmets. The Symax is my
favorite because it offers one-handed operation.

Fred at www.arrowheadmotorsports.com has them, and just about anything else you could ever need or want for the bike. If you're stuck, or can't find what you want, Email him from the site for a FAST response...> 1. Is there a online place to purchase a sevice manuel for this bike.
I think is going to be almost like one of the famous (infamous?) oil threads, and there as many preferences as there are helmet types. For *me* the perfect helmet has turned out to be a full-face HJC CL-12, (I'm not positive of the model number, although I think that's right - it's the one with the ventilation and Snell rating.) You can crack the shield open a click or two on hot days, but still have the protection and comfort of a full-face, or just lift the shield completely up for offroad. I know that a number of people use a regular dirt helmet with goggles; I DO kind of miss having a visor, but thought that dealing with the googles would be a hassle... Hope that helps! I traded my 96 gs with 42 thousand in on a brand new KTM adventure last
Saturday. I was seduced by the total WP suspension front and back, stainless
steel braided lines, Brembo, Super trap and lots of other goodies. Drove on
some rough asphalt and dirt roads on Sunday and it was soooo smooth. I can't
wait to get back to Copper Canyon. I am planning a trip down into Batopilas
and then over the ridge to Urique in April. If any one is interested let me
know. john@...
I now have a KLR for sale in Austin Texas.

I have tentative plans to leave for Guadalajara and Puerto Villarta on March 8. On the way back I hope to ride through Copper Canyon. Had to abandon plans to ride to Panama and back due to a lack of time.

Whats really fun is to lane split at 90 mph at night, in the rain and
with your eye closed.
I got 23,000 on my 2001 A15L. I Ride it
every day. It may take several month to get used to the seat for
extended travel 200+ miles at a time.

My own feeling is that the KLR just may be the best UJM to yet come from the
land of the rising sun.

Last fall I did a charity ride (poker run) that was mostly Harleys and Wings... Its
was kinda funny whenever I pulled up all the HD riders would look at me like either
I was nuts.. or something they would look at my bike, then look at there own.. then
look back at my KLR, until my taillight became a blur in the distance that is, lots of
twistys and back country roads.

I've let a couple of Harley riders take my KLR around the block.
They both have KLRs now. (The last time I rode a Harley, I
couldn't wait to get back on my /5.)
