How about changing a tire and missing one of your tire irons. "Must be here somewhere, I'll find it later." The first ride seemed a little rough, but I was headed for a dirt road where I wouldn't notice it. Hmm, seem to have a slow leak, so get out the pump. After a couple more times I bail on the ride and head home. Pumped it up a few times, but got home OK. Opened up the tire to find my tire iron had rubbed a hole through the tube and nearly through the tire. __Arden

Dave, That's the best one I've heard in a long, long time. Thanks for having the guts to share with us. Lars in VA, USA Green '06

You could post this to U-Tube, sort of like a silent movie without the video. Your description is that good. revmaaatin.

Ya, done that before. I caught it when I went to balance the tire. "Hey, this isn't right, I've used every weight in my toolbox and it *still* doesn't balance?!" So I took it back apart again and sure enough, blasted tire iron fell out when I shook the tire. Just another argument for balancing your tires after you spoon'em on :-). -E

At least you, Rev, didn t do the above while in front of Fred s garage in Moab. Yes, there was a jeering audience. And yes I don t multi-task well. In that case it was shooting the bull and changing oil. Bogdan [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I've left my keys either in the ignition or in my helmet lock more times than I can count on one hand. Sometimes, it's in a good neighborhood, sometimes not. There would likely be a different ending were it a sport bike instead of an A10 KLR with faded tupperware held on with zip ties. John

Just this month during lunch, I was reading a story on ADVrider where a guy was riding and someone pointed out some of his pinch bolts were missing. I just finished reading the sentence when I thought, CRAP! Two days ago, I loosened all the upper pinch bolts - as in all 4 - and didn't remember tightening them. I ran out to the parking lot, and sure enough, the bolts were still loose. This after riding on the freeway and lane splitting heavy surface street traffic. I'm so smart. Not. John

John Don't feel too bad, I bought my 2003 KLR used with very low mileage. The day I went to the guy's house to pick it up I gave it a very cursory inspection before riding it home. Mainly just checked to see if it had enough oil in it because this guy did not strike me as someone who was careful about maintenance. The day after I rode it home I went out to take a better look at things and found that the front axle nut was completely loose and there wasn't wasn't any cotter pin in there. So, the original owner was an idiot when it came to maintenance and I was an idiot for being in a rush to ride my new bike home. ed A17

Bogdan they can be very brutal at Fred's place. Be very careful there especially toward sunset. I have actually seen people run up behind others and put firecrackers in their pockets and light them. I wasn't drinking too much, but I think they did. Criswell
