yet another doohickey question
If you were watching, in the last month a member on this list posted
photos of the letter sent to Kawasaki and their denial of any
problems returned to the sender.
I used to work for a company that had abandoned limestone quarries
that had filled with water and over the years a kid or two drowned in
them while illegally swimming in them (jump off the cliffs, hit the
warm water on top but be going fast enough to go deep enough to get
into the 55 deg F water below and the thermal shock would drown
them). The attorney noted to me that if the company tried to fence
them in, it would be admitting that there is a problem, and
therefore, would be liable, No Trespassing signs were good enough. I
think Kawasaki is following that same tactic - don't admit anything;
and if a motor blows up while under warranty, fix it if you have to;
if it blows up after warranty, it's the owner's problem.
The KLR is a classic example of a mature product line and a
manufacturing "cash cow": the product parameters have been fixed for
years, no new R&D costs, cut corners where you can, churn them out as
fast as possible, make the money.
Don't get me wrong, I like my bike but I scratch my head at all of
the small things that Kawasaki overlooks. I agree with you, we
shouldn't have to fix the doohicky on a brand new $5000+ motorcycle.

I'm less than 1 hr from Gettysburg, PA. Camped and backpacked that
area. What do you need to know? Send your request directly to me.
