extended warranty
Any thoughts on the 2-4 year extended warranty offered by Kawasaki?
Anyone think it's a good deal? Anyone who bought it care to fill me in
on what they paid for it? Anyone experience any problems trying to
collect, particularly if they did their own regular maintenance?

I still think an extended warranty is a waste of money: 1. Typically a 100% markup, or 50% sales comission to the dealer, making it a really lousy insurance deal in actuarial terms. 2. You are dealing with an insurance company rather than the dealer or mfr. for the last word on claims approval. You will probably need a lawyer, or his fees' equivalent in your own time, to get most claims approved. 3. "Do I really need this warranty?" dealer: "Yes you do." "Then throw it in."> > Any thoughts on the 2-4 year extended warranty offered by Kawasaki? > Anyone think it's a good deal? Anyone who bought it care to fill me in > on what they paid for it? I got one, full four year extended. Its a not an awful deal imo
because its transferable, which might be worth a couple hundred or so
down the line. IF I was a qualified motorcycle mechanic would I have
 bought it? No way Jose.

I'm assuming the dealership collects from KHI for warranty work, at
least on something major. So I'd be surprised if I had to fight a
reasonable claim but then my dealership seems pretty reasonable and
interested in perhaps selling me another bike someday.

extended warranty
For about 32 cents a day, less than the price of a 1/2 cup of cheap
coffee, you get peace of mind and the backing of the dealership's
expert mechanics. I figure theyre on my side for the next 4-5 years
anyway as they won't want it to fall apart anymore than I do. And I
don't recall seeing any mileage limit on it. People have
circumnavigated the globe on these bikes (except for the oceans).
That could add up to a lot of miles under warranty over 5 years.

 And its transferable on resale!

Homer was wrong as far as refrigerators and tvs, less wrong about
 kawa's extended motorcycle warranty imo.

Most extended warranties are expertly crafted to cover only those parts that never break. Yep, thirty-two cents a day is close to five hundred bucks, hardly buy a pair of Gucci loafer for that.

extended warranty
That cup of coffee some people get at 7-11 every morning is at
least$1500 over the five years. One KLR650 front brake resevoir
screw is $1.95, one little plastic tab to cover the handlebar
mounting fasteners is $2.95. The engines covered I do believe.
Fixing a blown engine could get expensive if the price of a screw
and a plastic tab are any indication. Or are you saying the extended
warranty only covers the taillight bulb??

I sense a lot of envy among some people who somehow missed out on
the extended warranty opportunity. Remember too that with the
warranty you become part of Kawasaki's extended worldwide family.
They might even bail you out jail if you get arrested for speeding,
or least send an emissary to visit you. Kidding, just kidding there.

extended warranty
I agree with the others that suggest that extended warrantees are a rather
bad investment. I think of the warrantee as the manufacturer betting the
bike will be relatively reliable and the buyer betting that they know more
about the reliability than the manufacturer

But the A16 that I bought used came with a 7 year unlimited mileage Kawasaki
Gold Card warrantee, compliments of the DPO. I do my own work but had the
fork seals replaced under warrantee. The dealer has to call Kawasaki to
get them to accept the charge but they did accept the change without hassle.

I don't know how much the DPO paid for the warrantee but it saved me less
than $100 for the replacement forks seals and labor. If I had no warrantee
I would have just purchased the seals ( ----- Original Message -----
