In the larger cities I think you can get better pricing. Los Angeles
area has the best OTD prices in the country from what I can find, LA
cycles only makes $100 off each bike but make it up in volume. They
had 2005 KLR650's OTD inclucing a year of license reg for $4,999.
That deal had the $200 factory rebate built-in to the price,
 however.

I have 3 kawi dealers within 10 miles of my house. They ranged from
$5,600 OTD to $5,180 OTD for a new KLR650. I showed each sales mgr a
copy of the invoice and asked for best cash price. I saved about
$400 for going an extra 4 miles to "the other side of town" to the
furthest dealer. The finance guy there said they had 42 2005 KLR's
in stock company-wide so he didnt mind letting one go that cheap. He
made it up when i bought the extended warranty anyway. He also gave
me a $100 gift card good for parts and I ordered an assortment of
shims. I bought my FZ1 from him in '03 and I will buy more bikes
from him and he knows it. As far as service, I do my own work on all
my bikes, just need a warranty in case of electrical component
failures, a bottom end blowing apart, or some other catastrophe.

So for the extra $200 (plus registration) I bought my KLR locally
even though I go to SoCal to visit frequently.

The dealer has to make a profit to keep in business, so I think
a 'fair' deal from a 'good' dealer is a win-win situation.
