My 2c. OK .. The thing about retro-reflective tape/details is that it only works if you are shining a light into it. Therefore in the situation where you are perpendicular to each other it makes no difference. (For the nit pickers out there I should say .. except if the car has bright turn signals flashing on its side OR an other car is facing you and shining it's lights on you.) OK .. 2nd-ly 55-60mph through an intersection where your only protection is a stop sign ? ... You have to at least take some responsibility for that because it's just too fast. Here's an example. If she is driving out 20 yards from you then she probably made the check in your lane before she moved about 3 seconds before that .. and at 55mph that makes the total distance between you of 100 yards. A motorcycle just isn't that big at that distance. I won't defend her driving skills because she didn't look for you and nearly killed you but I am saying is that the risk could have been minimized ... Every move she could have made would have resulted in injury .. going straight, left or right is bad news. Driving defensively, as far as I understand it, means being able to avoid accidents before they happen .. if you see a potential hazard you owe it to yourself to slow down immediately and watch their wheels for any movement. Ok .. so that was 3c. barnaby. -----Original Message----- From: wefixit4u [mailto:wefixit4u@...] Sent: Wednesday, September 22, 2004 5:58 PM To: DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com Subject: [DSN_klr650] I'm done, Almost hit by cars twice today, '01 for sale in Ohio I almost had my right leg taken off (woman) today on my way to work. Then, 20 minutes later, I had a (woman)force me out of my lane. The first incident would have killed me had it not been for my alertness and defensive driving skills. Still, too close for comfort. Traveling on St. Rt. 22 in OH., as I approached Rt. 664 I saw the white car had stopped at her stop sign to my right. Then, as I was within 20 yards of her, she pulls out to make a left, right in front of me. My 2 thoughts were "are you F'ing blind" & "I am F'ed". How can you not see a 6'1" rider on a bike with a seat height of 35", with strips of 3M SOLAS reflective tape on the swingarm, trunk, and sides of helmet and a riding jacket with reflective details? How do people just see right through bikes?
