touring jackets

Post by Gerald Sdoutz » Tue Jul 27, 2004 12:25 pm

What kind of things should one be looking at when buying a jacket? Is there good, better and best armor? Is leather better than cordura better than nylon, etc? What other options are handy to have and which are just a waste of money, or get in the way? Gerald

1st service and mods.

Well I made it to my 500mi service and so far love the KLR. I haven't done all the service yet but I should be done by the end of the week. Two mods I have done and have noticed a difference in performance is the 1. radiator mod-blocking air from goig between the radiator and shroud. A cooler engine seems to run better. 2. drilling the carb slide and the pilot adjustment - I didn't do the washer on the needle mod. I want to see how the bike runs with just what I have done first. I also used 1500 sand paper to smooth polish the face of the slide that is exposed to the venturi. Next I want to do suspension the spongy forks need to go. I think I can tolerate the rear shock for awhile, I will try setting it to II or III, but the forks definitely need the replacement springs. 1st tank of gas - reserve at 220 miles - B4 mods 2nd tank of gas - reserve at 246 miles - B4 mods but filled with super I spashed of this week and didn't fill because I was in a hurry. I will fill next time at the station and keep track of mileage again.
