Pretty much ditto's to that. I'll be on some bike during the day almost without exception. Today was a milestone day though. My son and I went for his first street ride. Me on the KLR and him on his Buell Blast. He finished the MSF course last Sunday. We started on the quiet streets around our house but quickly got bored. I kept checking on him and he said he was feeling fine. (no doubt!) We progressed up to one of my favorite country lanes and then on out to Mason TN. to Gus's chicken. In total, we did about 100 miles today. Tomorrow, we go for the long ride. Regards, Sam

Commuting to work on my A8 55 miles round trip everyday. Only drive truck or carpool with wife when weather is bad or gout acted up in foot bad. Rode with other bikers all day on weekends sometimes and keep wondering why everyone is staring at my bike instead of others.

I ride mine to work every weekday, rain or shine. Friday was a beautiful day, mid 40s temperature and partly cloudy skies. I had to stop on the south side of the high-bridge into St. Paul to gaze out at the Mississippi river barge traffic and the St. Paul skyline. Smoked a ceegar and tried to think of excuses to take the day off... no dice. Having to go to work really intrudes on my "real" life. While I was standing there at the lookout, a fellow drove up in a large SUV and said "Hey, I've got a bike just like that!" I almost asked him why he wasn't riding it, but I didn't know him and decided to be polite. The rest of the ride to work was along the parkways, winding along the river. Beautiful... Had an easy day at work, and took the long way home. I didn't get home until after dark, but I have an understanding wife and she just warmed up my dinner without giving me any grief. Today is maintenance day. Gonna check my valves, at 8,700 miles, because I haven't checked them since I changed some shims at 1,500. (Remember the jeweler's screwdriver into the abyss incident?) I finally got a torque wrench, so I'm gonna torque the cap bolts properly this time. Gonna clean the chain and lube it again, and check everything else. Might as well do that subframe upgrade while I've got the bodywork off. I'm hoping to reach Paul Streeter before I leave on my long trip to S.Dakota, so we can mount that front Gripster. Life is good... I've been using Hondalube on the chain, but I find that it gets washed off every time I ride in the rain. We had two days in a row there where it rained during my commute, and by the third day there were rust spots on the rollers already. I wonder if that would have happened if I used WD40. If you do the math: 2001 KLR 50 mpg, 6 gallons @ 1.90 = $11.4 2003 F150 17 mpg, 25 gallons @ 1.90 = $47.5 1971 F100 10 mpg, 20 gallons @ 1.90 = $38 So, I am riding the KLR as much as possible. I don't need Pampers yet, but most of the people at CostCo know me as the guy with the bike. Fortunately, it's only about a 1/4 mile from where I work so doing my shopping in reasonable size chunks isn't a problem. I did have one bad moment, but a neighbor saw me standing there with a charcoal grill trying to figure out my next move and threw in the back of his pickup. I figure the bike pays for itself by cutting down on impulse buys of crap like 99" digital TVs and so forth. The best thing I've found is the sissy bar on the Sportster. I don't even have a passenger seat on it, but I can carry almost anything given enough bungees.
