riding buddies (some klr content. maybe)

Post by Eddie » Thu May 22, 2014 12:17 am

I have an ex riding buddy that pushed all the wrong buttons in a single trip. First, he'd collected enough "Marlboro Miles" (remember those?) from his job as an Applebee's bartender to buy this nice tent. Correction, "It's a terrific tent!" "It's GREAT!"" "It's really cool!" Or so I was told over and over. So, when a trip to N. Ga. was planned, he offered his tent for us to use. The day of the ride>Time: 6am. Temperature: 35F I arrived at his place and observed him finishing packing his Seca II. I didn't see a tent anywhere. So, I asked. His reply, "Dude, it's like, really huge and stuff. Can we take yours?" I rode all the way back across town, put my tent on my already neatly packed Transalp and went back over to his house. 4 hours later, we got to the campground and I proceeded to set up the tent while Danny did ___ (I'm not sure WHAT he did beside stand there and watch.). As I was adjusting the last rain fly attachment, I got, "Need any help setting up the tent?" Final straw: We rode 35+ miles to Helen, Ga. so he could buy some booze. He went in a store while I watched the bikes. He came right back. "Dude, I left my money back in camp and they don't take out of town checks. Can I borrow a $20 bill? I don't want to use my credit card." Quietly furious by this time, I said NO. Use your credit card. When he came back outside the second time, I nearly slugged him when he asked if I could carry his purchase on my bike since he also left his bike luggage back in camp. I've never come so close to snapping and just kicking a man's bike over and leaving him by the side of the road. -eddie

I followed, just such an A** H*** (person) 23+ miles to 2 different stores, chasing down a tail/brake light.  While I had (HAVE) a spare in my tool bag. (protected in an old pill bottle.) He only takes a tooth brush on trips, (1-8++ nights) saying, OTHERS WILL HAVE EVERYTHING ELSE I NEED. INCLUDING SNACKS, WATER, T.P., ETC. Yet HE, NAGS ME (& insults in-front of others) for carrying TOO MUCH. When he does pack cloths, HE MAKES OTHERS CARRY THEM,  BECAUSE, A STRAPPED ON BAG, LOOKS TACKY, ON MY BIKE". (Mean Streak & H. sportster) So others always carry his shit, INCLUDING A LAST MINUTE EXTRA GUEST. (they would not be as comfortable on my seat, as they would yours.) SO I TOLD HIM NOPE NO SPARE BULBS. On Wednesday, May 21, 2014 4:28 PM, "Buddy Eckles buddyeckles@... [DSN_KLR650]" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com> wrote:   Old, grumpy and right. Not carrying anything and expecting others to have extra wouldn't cut it very long with me. There are "Speed" hikers on the Appalachian trail who do that, don't diddly always expecting others to have food and shelter if needed. Really good way to wear your welcome out fast. I don't get it.
