exhaust sheild?

Post by John Biccum » Thu Mar 07, 2013 9:46 am

I've been running a stainless steel hose clamp instead of the aft-most bolt ever since I sheared the bolt off trying to remove it. Hose clamp works perfectly and is in perfect accord with the zip-tie culture of KLRistas worldwide. You risk being thrown out of the club for engineering a proper solution as you propose! -----Original Message----- From: "mark ward" Sent: 3/ 6/ 2013 14:34 To: "List KLR" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com> Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Exhaust sheild? A Preemptive Question. While TRYING to take out the screws, one screw looks stripped, So not sure how the "nut" is. The other screw finaly snapped off. (after 20+ minutes of working it. Hot cold etc.) While some have said , just cut off the old nuts and weld new, I worry about alignment of 2 nuts being just right. Has anyone tryed, drilling out the holes, the weld NEW NUTS ON TOP OF THE OLD? I'm thinking, While it WILL, bring the shield out about 1/4 inch, I would have them in alignment using the old stumps as guides. START THE THREAD NOW... LOL Thanks ahead.
