any body try these tires Heidenau K60 Scout Dual Sport Tire. they are better than $200 for a set here in northern BC. i drive 42 km a day to the mine. on my days off i do 200 to 300 kms in the dirt. there are so many km's of dirt roads in the area it is unreal. so i need a 50/50 tire but want a 80/20 (dirt/street). any other ideals?

heidenau tires ( ya ya i know tires have been talk to death)
I would say that if you want a cheap (but serviceable) 50/50 tire, the Shinko 244 is excellent.
If you're looking for an 80/20 that wears like iron, the Kenda k761 is an excellent choice. For the best handling and wear, run a K761 on the rear and a Shinko 705 on the front. The 761 front is "OK", but the 705 is an amazing upgrade... the rear is just too soft and doesn't last long enough for my tastes.
I've gotten 10,000 (16,000KM) miles out of a K761 rear.

heidenau tires ( ya ya i know tires have been talk to death)
When I was at the Overland Expo this year I was amazed at how many bikes I saw with Heidenau K60 tires. These are people who adventure tour the world and actually get into the rowdy stuff regularly. Several of the instructors were running them.
It was enough for me to want to try them when the KLR wears out the current D606s...though I plan to continue with 606s for the DR-Z because of how they handle in the sand.
If you decide to jump on a pair of K60s, please update us all on how well they work for you.

[dsn_klr650] tires
http://www.heidenau-tires.com/ that truly lives up to the phrase Made
in Germany.
Looks and sounds like a TKC 80 to me. Both German. Both "Big Block"
tread patterns. Both expensive.
Achtung! Sehr gut!

heidenau tires ( ya ya i know tires have been talk to death)
A couple observation s on the 761. I'm on my third set and have gotten between 8000 and10000 kms per set. The back wears out and the front scallops bad enough that I replace them as a set. I do a fair amount of gravel roads and ride quite aggressively on some pretty twisty secondary paved roads. Until this year, this year I have about 4000 on the present set riding either my lady friend on back or my daughter on her 250 Ninja with me, in both cases I ride much slower. Anyway at 4000 on this set almost no wear can be seen.
For a cheap tire they work very well but do run them at their max rated pressure. Anyway just my experience. Have a great day...Greg
