long distance saddle

Post by Greg May » Sun Jun 24, 2012 3:59 pm

Hi Jim I had planned on posting about my new seat anyway, but lately work has again decided to intrude with life so who knows when it would have been. Last weekend my daughter and I did our first of hopefully a few trips for the year, so this was the first time to try out the new seat a Sargent product riding by myself. I has previously been out for a few shorter runs with the missus. I found the seat 2 up an improvement, she said it might have been more comfortable for her but she thought it might have a little less padding at the back as her but was hitting the front rail of the rack. For me one up the difference was a major improvement, we did a long weekend, 3 days of an average of about 400kms with no discomfort for me. All of the trip was on road including a trip around the Cabot Trail, I'm in Nova Scotia. She on her 250 Ninja was not nearly so comfortable. Because she is limited in her experience we were probably on bike for maybe 6+ hours a day, so travelling by myself I think I could have easily done 500-600km days in the same time frame with no discomfort. The stock seat for me at least was terrible, it was way too soft and felt like I was sitting on the seat pan after about 2 hours. I replaced that with a Saddlemen gel seat kit which was an improvement but maybe only out to the 3 - 3.5 hour mark, it was too hard and although it was a little wider it still didn't work that well for me. The other down side for the Saddlemen seat was that the cover pretty much disintrigrated by the end of the third riding season, it would proably be even shorter lived in hotter climates. Anyway hopefully this helps ....have a great day....Greg ________________________________ From: "SeaTigerGo@..." I do a lot of long distance riding with lots of gear (I am a performer and a reenactor) and am looking for a comfortable long distance utility saddle, if such a thing exists. I have actually toyed with the idea of modifying a treeless endurance saddle (horse saddle) but would would really rather buy a made saddle with support and padding for my 6'1" broad frame and even broader A$$. Right now I get about an hour and a half before I start doing the KLR mamushka. If I could double that, I'd be happy. Any ideas... The perfect world saddle would also have more tie points for gear, I don't carry passengers unless I have to. Thanks. Jim (but most people call me... Jim)

Got an oil burner? Here's your chance to fix that problem cheap with all-new OEM parts, without going trough the expense and hassle of an overbore kit and the required machine shop work that goes with it. Part numbers are: Jug: 11005-1588 (Temgai part # (painted modern KLR charcoal metallic), but fits standard KLR '87-'95, and *should* also physically fit '96-2007) Piston: 13001-1284 (all years '87-2007) Rings: 13008-1081 (all years '87-2007) These parts would add up to $537 + shipping from ronayers.com. I offer them to you for $375, shipping included in the US. Thanks, Mark
