rear shock spring on a 2008 klr

One reason your stock spring may seem to be "sagged out" is the effect of the lowering links , which reduce the effective rate of the spring. Without the lowering links, you could still probably benefit by a spring in the neighborhood of 400-450 lb/in. The stock springs on the earlier bikes were 288 or 300 lb. I don't know the spec on the later ones,

the best cheap way to upgrade rear shock

Get a low mile 08 or later shock off that auction site.$125 or less Buy an aftermarket rear spring; avail. for around $100. Buy the small cheap Mcpherson Strut Compressor from Harbor Freight. $15 If you are jumping forward years, you have to add a washer/shim to the bottom bolt. The FAQ prepared by lister, Dr. Chris Krok tells the rest of the story. The later oem shocks come with a condom to keep your shaft clean. J#3
