I never met George face to face, but I corresponded with him on this list. It's been a few years since I can recall hearing from him here. He struck me as knowledgeable, good-humored and a true gentleman.

Never met him, but from his son's letter it is clear he lived life to the
fullest and raised his kids well. Godspeed George.

George has been a good friend to me and to this list for a long time. Just
a few weeks ago George called me to talk over some repairs to his KLR so he
could be ready for the coming season. About ten years ago George came to
our rally here in Moab and was riding with some friends in the Lasal
mountains here and for some unknown reason had a meeting in the road with a
road grader. George being the trooper he was continued his ride and had a
good story to tell once he was back at camp. I wasn't on that ride with him
but I know there were some from this list that were.
George often mentioned his love for his wife Alice. I could feel his love
for his family since he spoke kindly of them many times. I pray that George
recovers from these last events as there are many that are missing him. My
condolences to George's wife Alice, his family and his friends. I
understand your grief at this time since it was just a week ago today that I
buried my father. Peace be with you.
Ride on George

That would have been in 2000, the last year we could go out on group
rides and not draw the ire of the park service for the most part. As I
remember the main culprit that day was dust, great billowing clouds of
dust. The group got pretty spread out because of the dust and later
broke into several smaller groups. I was ahead of George so didn't
realize anything had happened till we all met for dinner that night. As
I remember we had pizza.
Hopefully George will make through this last test with his faculties intact.
Sorry to hear of your Dads passing, I lost mine in 87 and still think of
him often.
Oh by the way, I believe it was a relative of yours that sang in the
park that year. Does she still perform? As I remember, we all enjoyed
the performance quite a bit.

Ah, yes back in the Good Ol Days. Seems like only yesterday. That was when our gathering was pretty big and yes my cousin Beth is still making the music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... m6vtKqS8Vk
Thanks for asking,

God bless him, George was a character.
That road grader just jumped right out of nowhere!
My sincere condolences to George's family, and to you too Mr. Hink.
It's been a very trying winter on that front around here, too. Lots of good people passing on suddenly.
Regards

" continually rejects production samples until they get it right."
any of you folks read "hell for leather" online ? I really enjoy it : nice format, up to date, cutting back on my paper magazine subscriptions ! I subscribe 2 bucks a month and well worth it.
I don't think they're big on KLR's but there are several KLR posters who are great !! it's a younger irreverent crowd, if you will !
anyways... they had a story about Cleveland Cycle Werks and their new offering : sorta cafe racer for $3200. from china. looks cool in pictures anyway.
and I guess it took them about 5 years of rejections til they got it right.
ride safe.
New Englanders : Heck of a riding season, eh ?!?
