I thought others in the forum might want to know a bit more about the location, called Tianmenshan ( ), which translates as "Mountain of Heaven's Gate". It's in Hunan province in east-central China. > > Care for a look at that road in Google Maps? > > Or how about some Google images? > > Now for the bad news: It's a private road inside a protected park and purportedly is accessible only to official low-emission vehicles -- and most definitely NOT to motorcycles. There's also a 750 RMB admission fee; that's about US$120. That doesn't mean we've given up. Someone's always got ideas cooking for how we might get in there, even if it means greasing the gatekeepers. It's less than a day's ride from where I live, and ranks high on my list of "don't take 'no' for an answer" destinations. My Jialing JH600 (think of it as a KLR with Chinese characteristics) would love it! > > Fortunately, there are many, many other spectacular places to ride in China.
