klr in the iron butt rally

Post by Kevin Powers » Thu Jun 30, 2011 9:22 am

Earl Damron has been riding a KLR in this year's IBR, but is broken down with an electrical issue in Jackson, MS and may not finish. For those who don't follow the rally, this year the start was in Seattle. The riders are required to collect receipts from the 48 continental states and make it to the finish in Ontario, CA in 11 days. An extra 4800 points for collecting Alaska. An extra 4800 points available for travelling to the four extreme corners of the US. Varying points available for pictures of state capitals. I just topped up my battery prior to a trip to Barkerville, BC, and I think that the item that I use might be of interest to some. I use the acid container from the new battery and about 15 " of plastic tube that fits the spigot, with a rigid tube about an inch long at the other end. Gives good control and little spillage. As for disclaimers, if anyone is daft enough to use the acid container without a thorough washing, they more help than a disclaimer could be. Keep the rubber side down, DC -- DC
