removing the stock decals?

I used a razor blade to pick up the edge and they pulled of. Some Gunk remover got rid of the left over adhesive. I did let the bike sit in the sun to warm them up first. Recently,about 6 weeks ago I put a message out to the group to see if anybody had any used street tires to donate or sell at a cheap price.I had a group of 3 (Harley bagger,Concourse & another KLR) friends that were all interested in gaining membership to the Iron Butt association.The group prides themselves on being "The world's toughest riders" so I figured that this would be a worthy challenge.I entered "KLR sprockets" into google search and found a 16/40 sprocket combo that made a HUGE difference for what I was doing here.Roughly 500 rpm difference (lower) from stock in 5th gear almost seemed like the 6th gear that they forgot to put in at the factory.Well,other than a new Kenda K270 coming apart on me (thanks Westark Yamaha In Ft.Smith,AR for the KLR Oem Take-off) and a bearing going bad in the wheel.....it was a success!! 23hrs.& 30min. later! 1,029 miles.The documentation of the ride at every gas station...getting start/finish witness/odometer readings,etc. proved to be a challenge within itself.After the ride I mailed in all paperwork as required and then last week it came in the mail.My acceptance package from IBA.Surprisingly to me the official # of KLR's to have done this is VERY low.If YOU have ever considered this....you should do it.It was an experience of a lifetime.
