We've lost a rare friend and comrade. Verle loved motorcycles and
motorcycling but even more he loved the Colorado and Utah plateau, desert
and canyon country. He was as good a writer as he was a rider and his
writing came from his keen sense of observation and boundless curiosity. He
was a person of profound integrity. Verle shared some of his favorite places
with me and my son, Dominic. Both of us will not soon forget the nights we
spent by a campfire talking about first things.
