bigger cs sprocket: benefits?

Harry, others are correct on stock gearing (15/43).  Some run a 16 front, some of us even run a 17.  There's a lot to choose from out there, play with it to your liking.

alarms and a cover.

I seriously had a nylon holster bolted to the leading edge of my former DL1000's side case. =) When I got the KLR, I opted for the Kaw. semi-rigid nylon bags. I found a very compact, new, full nylon cover on eBay for $1! (+$13 shipping). It covers the KLR completely, even with the saddlebags in place, and packs down into a bag that will stuff inside my helmet (example). It keeps the honest folks honest and the bike clean when parked at a trail head while I'm off exploring. The disc lock seems like a good investment. Just be triple sure you remember to remove it before getting on the bike! =) eddie

with a Zena alarm/disc lock and a 3/4 cover. I'll be able to use these on nearly any bike. I am still considering a more comprehensive system, for both bikes.

great idea when parked at hiking trails.
